Taskers Sports was first established in 1977 by it’s founder Jack Tasker. Jack was well known in and around Liverpool as a successful businessman having originally founded Taskers DIY in the 1950’s.
When he retired from the DIY business he wanted ‘to keep his hand in’, and so, as he enjoyed most sports he decided to open a small specialist sports store selling darts, trophies, fitness equipment, fishing tackle and snooker.
The first store was situated on County Road, in the Walton Area of Liverpool. Jack knew the area well as this was where he was born and brought up. He soon moved the store to larger premises a little further along the same road.
The next big change was in 1986 when the current owner, his son Peter, having joined the business a few years earlier, moved the business to much larger premises in Anfield.
The new store at 14,000 sq feet was considered massive for a sports shop at that time and so other sports were added, making it a ‘complete sports business’
Roll on 20 years and Peter, who was now joined by his Sons, Neil and Kris realized that the store was again too small for all that they wanted to do, and so the decision was taken to acquire new premises.
After a massive re-fit this new Long Lane Specialist Sports Superstore was opened. With enlarged ranges of Fitness, Boxing, MMA, Food supplements, Supports, Swimming, Cricket, Bowls, Rackets, Table Tennis, Football, Basketball, Sports clothing and Footwear, Specialist running and more besides, this new store is now the largest independently owned specialist sports store in the UK.
The Anfield store has been kept and re-developed as Taskers Angling, www.taskers-angling.co.uk , and is now one of the largest fishing tackle shops in the UK. At this store you will also find massive ranges of Darts, Trophies, Snooker and Pool Tables, Archery and Field sports.
One of our strengths has always been knowledge. All of our staff have a passion for sport. At any one time you may be served by a County schools runner, or a martial arts instructor, or a former County hockey player or even a body builder! As well as having the right knowledge and experience we give our staff rigorous training in good customer service.
