Best Sporting Moments From Liverpool Athletes In 2022

Best Sporting Moments From Liverpool Athletes In 2022

2022 has been a very memorable year when it comes to sport. However for some of the sportspeople who are from or based in Liverpool, their achievements have been ones that we can proud of. Here at Taskers Sports here are some of our most memorable scouse sporting moments from the last year.

Nick Ball Becomes WBC Champion

In a packed out Wembley Stadium boxer Nick Ball defeated Issac Lowe to claim the WBC International Featherweight Title. After six action filled rounds which saw both fighters aiming for the knockout Lowe's team through the towel in the ring, meaning Ball had won.
Nick had managed to damage Lowe's eye during the match to the point it was coming hard for him to carry on meaning the contest was drawn to a close. Winning in front of a full Wembley for Nick was a special moment and one that the rest of the city would have been proud of!
Paddy Pimblett Earns Third Win Of The Year In Vegas

Paddy Pimblett reacts after defeating Jared Gordon at UFC 282

Its been a great year for the up and coming UFC star Paddy the Baddy and he capped it off in style by beating Jared Gordon by unanimous decision at UFC 282 in Las Vegas.

Paddy, who is from Huyton was in the co-main event. He survived a very early first round scare when he nearly broke his foot with a kick but ultimately he went on too win 29-28 on all of the judges score cards which added to his back to back wins in March and July.

It's been a brilliant year for the 27 year old whose profile and stock continues to rise, not just locally but all around the world. Heading into 2023 Paddy will be confident of adding a lot more wins to his impressive record.

Molly McCann Beats Hannah Goldy

Evertonian Molly McCann is the other scouser who is making an impact in the UFC. Back in July she defeated American Hannah Goldy at UFC London. The fight will most likely be remembered for what some have described as the knock out of the year when McCann delivered a stunning spinning elbow to take down her opponent.
To make things even more special Paddy the Baddy was there to cheer her on and then eventually he would go on to win his own fight later on that night. It also meant that Molly had won all three of her wins in the UFC at the time.

Chloe Watson Makes A Statement Win Against Gemma Ruegg

One of our up and coming boxers Chloe Watson claimed a statement win against 37 year old Gemma Ruegg. 22 year old Chloe won via a fourth round decision in their fight at Newcastle.

Watson has enjoyed a successful year boxing winning all her other two fights this year against Farah El Bousairi and Minerva Gutierrez, all on point. We are very excited to see what 2023 has in store for Chloe and we are excited to see what she achieves.

Liam Smith Keeps Pushing For A World Title

Liam Smith

Its been a great year for scouse boxer Liam Smith, cemented by beating Hassan Mwakinyo at the Echo Arena in early September. The fight ended in the fourth round when Mwakinyo dropped to his knee in the corner after Smith had been putting him under a lot of pressure. After the referees count Mwakinyo went down again with Smith unloading on him with punches leading to the referee declaring Smith as the winner.

Smith had been left disappointed he couldn't give the home crowd a KO finish but the win means he has an exciting fight against Chris Eubank Jr early next year to look forward too in a fight in which he will be hoping to become a world champion for the second time. We will all be hoping that Smith can bring the belts back home with him.
